Joe Bite Me: 50,000 Troops Left in Iraq After End of Combat Mission Can Still "Shoot Straight"

He also said, "It's not like we're walking away." Didn't Obama mention something about not devoting huge amounts of money to Iraq any longer? How much does 50,000 troops cost? And will they be funded appropriately?

From ABC News:

Biden on Iraq: 'It's Not Like We’re Walking Away'

In his speech last night President Obama referred to "an age without surrender ceremonies," – but when I asked Biden if this milestone is a win for the U.S., he said it is "about a change of command and a change of mission."

Yeah, we don't want to hurt our enemies' self-esteem on the playground by keeping score of the kickball game.

Biden, who is visiting Iraq during the transition, today attended a ceremony marking the end of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the beginning of Operation New Dawn.

Although 50,000 U.S. troops will remain in the country, many Iraqis are concerned that violence will spike following the departure of the combat soldiers. I asked the vice president if Obama would consider sending additional troops back should that occur -- but he said the remaining troops can "shoot straight" and are combat ready if necessary.

Operation New Dawn. Obama and Biden must have learned of the code name for their @ss whooping in November and decided to steal it from conservatives.

Also, does this mean that our soldiers can shoot first if given the opportunity or will they get to only shoot straight after being shot at? I'm thinking the latter.

"We have faith that the Iraqi troops, that our sacrifices have allowed to be trained, are in fact ready and will be increasingly capable of providing total security for this country by the end of next year," Biden said.

Next year? So we end combat operations before the end of next year and rely on faith on a group that has serious worries about troops leaving early. That's liberal troop management for you. In all essence, Joe is declaring that our troops are under the protection of Iraqi troops that haven't yet finished training. I'm sure that will end well.

Last night Obama reiterated his promise to begin withdrawing troops from Afghanistan next summer – a promise that Sen. John McCain fiercely opposes. Following the president’s Oval Office address McCain said that announcing the July deadline reinforces "ambiguity" and puts soldiers' lives at risk.

"Look, I respect John but I think John is absolutely wrong," Biden said.

Why wasn't Biden asked about how wrong he was when he proposed splitting Iraq into three regions after declaring the war lost in 2006?

From USA Today:

Biden and Gelb also wrote that President Bush "must direct the military to design a plan for withdrawing and redeploying our troops from Iraq by 2008 (while providing for a small but effective residual force to combat terrorists and keep the neighbors honest)."

By "small but effective residual force" the 50,000 troops Obama and he are leaving there now?

the 50,000 U.S. troops left in iraq should not have to train Iraqs forces. The U.S. has helped the secruity forces enough and should be confident they will be fine without our troops.
